Chicken & Coop Rental Agreement Contract

This Rental Agreement (“Agreement”) is made between the Renter (“Customer”) and Rent a Hen and House with Howard Harvest (“Provider,” “we,” “us,” or “our”), for the temporary rental of chickens, a coop, and associated supplies and equipment. By signing this Agreement, the Customer agrees to the terms outlined below.

 

1. Rental Package Includes

• ___ (2/3/4) healthy, egg-laying hens

• 1 portable chicken coop

• 50 lbs of feed per chicken

• 1 feeder and 1 waterer

• 1 bag of chicken treats

• 1 bag of coop bedding

• Optional accessories (if selected)

All items are the property of Rent a Hen and House with Howard Harvest and must be returned in acceptable condition.

 

2. Rental Period

A buffer of ± 7 days may apply to accommodate scheduling, weather, and travel logistics.

 

3. Animal Welfare & Care Responsibilities

The Customer agrees to:

• Provide a safe, secure, and predator-resistant outdoor space for the hens and coop.

• Ensure chickens have daily access to clean food and water.

• Clean the coop regularly and keep the hens in sanitary conditions.

• Protect the chickens from extreme heat, cold, storms, theft, and abuse.

• Supervise children and pets interacting with the hens.

Failure to care for the hens in a humane and responsible manner may result in immediate termination of the rental without refund, and retrieval of animals and equipment by the Provider.

 

4. Ownership

All hens, the coop, and all rental materials remain the sole property of Rent a Hen and House with Howard Harvest.

• The Customer may not rehome, sell, or keep any items or chickens after the rental ends.

• Any unreturned or unreasonably damaged items may result in additional fees.

 

5. Damaged or Killed Chickens

If a chicken becomes ill, injured, or dies during the rental period, the Provider will determine at its sole discretion whether a replacement will be offered.

• No refund will be provided for deceased hens.

• The Customer must notify us promptly if any chicken appears unwell or is injured.

 

6. Damage to Coop or Equipment

The Customer is financially responsible for any damage caused to the coop or rental items beyond normal wear and tear.

• Repairs or full replacement cost will be assessed and billed to the Customer.

• We may replace damaged equipment at our discretion, depending on availability and extent of the damage.

 

7. Egg Consumption Disclaimer

Chickens may lay eggs during the rental period.

• We do not guarantee egg quantity or quality.

• The Customer assumes all responsibility for the storage, handling, and consumption of eggs.

• Rent a Hen and House is not responsible for any illness or injury resulting from the use or consumption of the eggs.

 

8. Limitations of Liability

Rent a Hen and House is not liable for:

• Injury, illness, allergy, or death caused by contact with chickens, equipment, or eggs

• Property damage caused by chickens scratching, pecking, foraging, dust bathing, or coop placement

• Any nuisance issues including noise, odor, or neighbor complaints

• Zoning or municipal violations—Customer is responsible for complying with local ordinances

• Vet bills, pest infestations, or damage caused by wild animals or predators

• Any lost time, wages, emotional distress, or consequential damages related to the rental

• Any physical, environmental, or allergic reaction triggered by contact with chickens or coop materials

• Website outages or delays in communication

• Any issue not expressly covered herein

 

9. Pick-Up & End-of-Season Return

We will coordinate with you to schedule a pick-up within a 7-day window before or after the official end of the rental period.
The Customer agrees to:

• Have all equipment and hens ready and accessible for pickup

• Ensure items are reasonably clean and safe to handle

• Remain responsible for the hens’ care until pickup is completed

 

10. Termination of Agreement

This Agreement may be terminated early by Rent a Hen and House if:

• The chickens are not being properly cared for

• The Customer violates terms of the Agreement

• The chickens or equipment are in unsafe conditions

No refund is guaranteed upon early termination unless otherwise agreed in writing.

 

11. Acknowledgment of Risk & Release of Liability

By signing this Agreement, the Customer acknowledges:

• That caring for live animals involves inherent risk

• That chickens may act unpredictably or cause unintentional harm

• That the Customer accepts full liability and holds harmless Rent a Hen and House with Howard Harvest, its owners, staff, and agents from any legal claims, damages, injuries, illnesses, or costs incurred during or as a result of this rental

 

12. Entire Agreement

This Agreement represents the full understanding between the parties and supersedes any prior agreements or communications. Modifications must be in writing and signed by both parties.
